Mentorship of AYCD Youth Ambassadors

The AYCD Youth Ambassadors Mentoring Programme is designed to build resiliency skills, positive identity and self-esteem through a comprehensive positive youth development program. This tool seeks to reduce risky behaviours among Senior Primary and high school youth and to prevent them from engaging in risky behaviours in the future. The overall aim is that students will use these acquired principles as a guide for their future actions and development. Participants will develop knowledge of self and others in order to prepare for effective leadership through the exposure to a series of activities that promote healthy self esteem, identity, cultural awareness, positive academic skills, and organisational skills, among others.

AYCD Youth Ambassadors really need one-on-one support from a mentor to help them to make the transition from secondary to tertiary education and to a better life. The mentoring programme ensures that every Youth Ambassador accesses tertiary education and/or employment once they matriculate. Secondary objectives include developing communication skills, self-knowledge and self-esteem.
