Ambassadors Sports Development is a community-based non-profit academic-empowerment program serving youth in Gauteng. Ambassadors Sports Development is an initiative of Ambassadors Youth and Community Development a registered Non Profit Organisation. AYCD through Ambassadors Sports Development uses the sport as a tool to help impact the lives of children in the former townships of South Africa.

This Sports Development initiative  provides them with the opportunity to compete on a team, and helps them to develop important life skills like teamwork, commitment, sportsmanship, and other character building traits. We use coaches as role models, not only on the field in competition, but also off the field in life…

Ambassadors were founded in 2004 by Aneil Manmohan and Priya Govender. It started as a community development football club where under privileged children and youth were given the opportunity to be coached in and to play football in a local football league (PADSA) in Pietermaritzburg. Youth and children from Happy Valley, Ghost Town, Site 11 and Northdale were coached and trained twice a week and all competitive games were played on weekends.

Ambassadors Football Club started off with 1 u15 team and progressed to 4 teams, an u13, u15, u17 and an open team. The football club kept youth and children off the street and away from all the pressures of life such as alcohol and drug abuse. It gave them hope and faith and showed that someone cared for them as most of them came from broken homes and had to deal with physical and emotional abuse. Aneil and Priya self funded this football club and provided all teams with soccer kit as well as meals on the week-ends.

The soccer teams excelled in their games winning tournaments and PADSA U17 League and were awarded status in the SAFA Metropolitan league which was a step up from the local PADSA league. The football club closed temporarily in January of 2008. With the passion of what they were doing still burning strongly within them, Aneil and Priya decided to start a non-profit organisation. October 2011 gave birth to the Ambassadors Sports Development
